The Swedish Internet Foundation will provide a Postgraduate Research scholarship at Karlstad University to research DNS. This initiative is an unique opportunity to collaborate with one of the leading scientific and educational institutions in Sweden.

During a four year period a PhD student will be dedicated to researching DNS, a critical part of the infrastructure of the internet. The research position will be announced during the first half of 2021.

Providing a Postgraduate Research scholarship is one of several initiatives by the foundation that aims to develop a safer internet.

Aims to provide new insights for the community

– We are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to contribute both funding and expertise to the research of DNS, our core field of business, says Nicklas Pousette, Head of DNS-Labs at The Swedish Internet Foundation.

The research will provide new insights which the foundation aims to share with the DNS community as it progresses. Another goal of this initiative is to inspire others to join the effort in developing the internet.

– DNS security and performance is crucial for the stability of the internet and the performance of internet applications. In this context, I am very excited to start this project and for the opportunity to combine the vast practical and operational experience with DNS at The Swedish Internet Foundation with the strong research experience on network security and network performance measurements at Karlstad University. Together, I believe we will be able to produce both cutting edge research and make a real impact for internet users, says Anna Brunström, professor in Computer Science at Karlstad University.

Hoping for more collaborations with academia

The Swedish Internet Foundation hope that more academic institutions are open to join forces in this important field, as collaborating with academia is one of the organization's priorities in the field of DNS.

– We believe that combining our expertise with research from academic institutions will ensure the continued development of a safer internet, and we are excited to begin this journey, concludes Nicklas Pousette.
